Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember………
I grew up in Frankenmuth Michigan, USA, and first sat at a keyboard, aged 9, to learn piano. Even back then I knew I’d found my passion and my calling. And I followed it-all the way to Australia, where I now live with my partner, Robyn, in the idyllic NSW Northern Rivers Region, just south of Byron Bay.
My musical influences include Jerry Lee Lewis, Elton John, Leon Russell, Jordan Rudess, Gov't Mule, Billy Joe Shaver and Lyle Lovett. Over the last 30-years, I’ve been privileged to play and perform with musicians across the globe on projects ranging in genre from country, folk and rock to experimental, impromptu works.
In January 2017, I joined the ‘Living in the 70s’ band as a keyboard player and vocalist and have been performing the great songs of that decade ever since. I can now unashamedly play and sing ‘Bloody Well Right’ by ‘Supertramp’ with gusto! It’s always great to see our audience up and dancing and having so much fun with the music from that era!
My latest project is bringing music to Early Learning centers. This project is very special to me. Music can help children develop so many skills simultaneously like memory retention, hand eye coordination, listening and following instructions, and of the most important…having fun with their peers.
Another one of my professional creative outlets is Videography. I love the storytelling aspect of making a video, how variables like Light, Sound and Language all come together to invoke a feeling or emotion. I’ve been working with Humane Yoga since the pandemic to build their online video offerings. Just like playing in different bands, making a video for someone is always a unique experience as everyone has their own story to tell.
When I’m not performing, making videos or working with early learning centers, I teach piano. I started teaching at the ‘Play By Ear’ Piano School, while I was based in Singapore, before coming to Australia. I currently teach piano at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium in Lismore as well as provide face-to-face and on-line lessons. It’s a great feeling being able to share the gift of music with my students, who range in age from 6-years-old to 70-years-old!
I’m looking forward to seeing where music will take me next………
